Over the last year, the CALS Organizational Redesign Committee has considered possible changes in structural organization and resource allocation to make CALS more resilient now and into the future. To make recommendations, the committee researched peer institutions, looked at global trends, analyzed the strengths of the college and consulted broadly (including a survey and discussions at the fall All-College Meeting). Their efforts culminated in a report with recommendations for a redesigned CALS, which they submitted to the dean at the end of the fall semester. The committee recommendations cover overall collegiate structure, a new resource allocation model, performance metrics and the development of five-year departmental plans.
As a companion to the committee’s report, Dean VandenBosch has written a response, outlining how the college will advance the committee’s recommendations.
As a first step toward implementation, Dean VandenBosch will speak with the department chairs at the January meeting about the committee’s report and her response. Future news about the redesign will be posted on the redesign website and in upcoming editions of eCALS.
